The Chairman of the College Council, Ibrahim Ismail, has been appointed as member of the Task Force convened to work towards establishing a South Asia Human Rights Mechanism. The Regional Initiative for a South Asia Human Rights Mechanism has its secretariat in Kathmandu, Nepal, and is supported by Forum Asia. The Initiative is to bring the SAARC region in par with other regions in its efforts to protect and promote human rights. In particular, once established, the Mechanism will seek to redress violations of human rights in the region. The Task Force consists of an eminent person from each SAARC country and will be working closely with civil society groups in its work. The staff and students of the College congratulates the Chairman on his appointment, and wishes the Task Force well in its endeavours, and the College is proud for the recognition accorded to its Chairman for his untiring efforts to promote democracy and human rights.
