Bachelor of Education (Educational librarianship)

This course aims to produce graduates to fill a gap that can be seen in the Maldivian education system today. This course trains its students for the very unique role of educational librarians, culminating skills and theories in both librarianship and education. The graduates of this course will be able to work in literacy development, as well as information acquisition and management for children. Students will be able to evaluate, support and improve the teaching and learning needs in ever evolving modern learning environments. The graduate will be able to use information literacy tools, and assist students to access information through resources, including electronic and online resources. In addition, graduates will be thorough with educational theories and practices such as educational psychology, learning theories and teaching methodologies, thus enabling the student to develop lessons and teaching strategies for primary aged students. Furthermore, graduates will also be equipped with the necessary skills to develop literacy and reading programmes for children.

Entry Requirements

2 passes at GCE advanced level OR Completion of the Mandhu College Foundation for Degree Studies Programme OR Attainment of a level 4 qualification in a relevant field

Alternative Criteria

Attainment of a diploma or other level 5 qualification may be granted entry into the second year OR Attainment of an Associate Degree or another level 6 qualification may be granted entry into the third and final year of the programme
