At the completion of this program students are expected to be competent in a discipline of their choice in terms of content, skills and methods of inquiry in the discipline. Students will also have a thorough understanding of modern educational psychology, learning theories, and the development of teaching methods. In addition to this, students completing this program will also have a sound grasp of adolescent psychology and student management skills necessary for building meaningful relationships with secondary aged students. Furthermore, students will have gained adequate experience in the school setting and become familiar with specific issues within the education system of the Maldives. Students completing this program will also acquire skills and knowledge necessary to engage with the development of curriculum. Moreover, students will also be introduced and exposed to the methods and techniques used in educational research.

Students will be specializing in two subject areas for their teaching. For students choosing to study Information Technology, the area of specialization will be one.
